A list of acid and alkaline foods is a important key to have when learning to balance your diet. The Ph balance of the blood stream is incredibly important for health. A high ph balance can be caused by foods or even stress. It effects the bodies ability to absorb minerals or can prevent the body from forming new cells.

A Ph chart ranges from 0-14. Numbers below 7.0 are considered acidic and numbers above are called alkaline. It is ideal for the body to be kept in a range between 7.35 – 7.45, or slightly alkaline.

A foods effects of the blood steam, and their tendency to be acid or alkaline is not related to whether or not the food itself tests as acidic or not. Lemons, for example are every acidic, but after going through the process of digestion and enter the blood stream they have an alkaline effect on the body. This has to do with the mineral content of the food, or the ash that is left behind once the food is digested.

List of Acid and Alkaline Foods

More acidic foods are foods usually associated with protein. Meats such as fish, poultry and red meat are acidic, and can effect the bodies PH balance. Other foods like eggs and grains are also have a high ph. This is not to say these foods should be avoided, however they should be balanced with foods that are alkaline.

Most fruits and vegetables are considered to be alkaline. Beans, peas, and lentils are also alkaline and do well when balanced against highly acidic foods. Many flavorings like spices, herbs and seeds are considered alkaline. When balancing a meal with red meat, for example, try to balance the ph by using a side dish of eggplant vs pasta, which would give the meal an acidic balance.

Having a detailed acidic alkaline food list can help keep the menu balanced as well as encourage a healthy diet. With ph balanced meals, the body can absorb minerals and produce the necessary chemicals the body needs to function.
